The ‘Mr & Mrs Smithers’ – affectionately named after some good friends of ours who kindly gave them to us as a wedding project-present last year!
These wooden armchairs probably date from the 60′s or 70′s. There are no manufacturers mark on these, though the arms and top back rail have an Ercol-esque feel to them. They have solid hardwood frames with lovely wishbone detailing to the arms and back. The frames are screwed and dowelled, unmistakably British – they look like a mixture of Beech and steam bent Elm, popularly used by Ercol.
The chairs were originally varnished in a rather nasty dark brown and the original cushions were a faded crushed sage green velour.
This restoration involved completely hand sanding the frames, and priming and spraying in a Stone Grey colour furniture paint.
The seat platforms have coil sprung suspension, but we have added brand new interior fillings in the seat and back cushions to make them comfy and supportive once more. The cushions were reupholstered in a contemporary Grey Linen look fabric, with contrasting Lime Green piping. The contrast piped seat and back cushions, also feature contrast buttons. All cushions are reversible so can be shown as plain grey instead. Each chair also comes with a fabulous Paisley print 20″ down filled scatter cushion as pictured.
Either on their own, or as a pair they will make a great statement in any room.
…We are really pleased with how these chairs have turned out, we just wish we knew who made them?!
All our chairs are reupholstered to comply with current fire regulations.
